This morning I was reading in Jeremiah 1 about his call coupled with DA Carson's commentary on the passage. He reflects on elements of Jeremiah's call that I've summarized in these three words that are true of the calling of every servant of the Lord.
1. CHOSEN: been commissioned from God and chosen before birth stabilizing Jeremiah in the face of opposition.
2. CAPABLE: Jeremiah protested that he was too young, but God would not accept that excuses, for he is perfectly capable of equipping anyone he chooses.
3. COURAGEOUS: Above all God tells Jeremiah not to be afraid... God does not sugar-coat the difficulties: Jeremiah will be opposed and will at times stand along - but they "will not overcome you," God says, "for I am with you and will rescue you" (1:19)
Considering Jeremiah's call helps me reflect on my own. Applied to my own calling as a Christian, wife and mother, I gain vision for this season of my life.
That I have been CHOSEN in Christ before my birth for His glory;
that I am only CAPABLE to do what God asks in His Word because He equips who He has chosen;
and that I can be COURAGEOUS in the face of difficult or opposition because my God is mighty and He is my ever present help in time of need.
Oh that I would remember the Faithful one who has called me and will work in me today.

"To this he called you through our gospel,
so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ."
{2 Thessalonians 2:14}
